News of day:

16.07.2010  Self-organizing nanotechnologies control metallic material properties

Researches carried out at the Institute of High Technologies (Ulan-Ude) may become the basis for creating self-controlled (extreme) nanotechnologies. It will make possible to control metallic material properties during their synthesis, face-hardening processing and functioning of materials in a finished engineering construction. 13.08.2010  Nanoconstruct with the of human lactoferrin gene — a new generation drug

Oncologists will probably get a new generation drug at their disposal. Specialists at the Federal State Institution - Moscow Research Oncological Institute named after P.A. Hertzen of Rosmedtechnology (Federal Agency for High-Technology Medical Care of Russia) and the Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Honorable Academician N.F. Gamalei (Russian Academy of Medical Sciences) have created a genetically engineered construct that contains the gene of human lactoferrin protein. This protein eases toxic action of the antineoplastic drug cisplatin. The researchers’ effort was partly sponsored by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research

13.08.2010  Gold nanocells for health protection

The researchers at the Institute of Biochemistry and Physiology of Plants and Microorganisms, Russian Academy of Sciences; and the Chernyshevsky Saratov State Institute, have made their contribution to the study and synthesis of gold nanocells, silver nanocubes and gold-and-silver nanostructures. They have also suggested a new method of modeling optical characteristics of gold-and-silver nanostructures

16.07.2010  Coal plastic for mechanical engineering

Russian government has demonstrated interest in the development of material for green high-strength heat-resistant antifriction products such as plain bearings and gaskets made of nano-modified coal plastic for the purposes of shipbuilding, power mechanical engineering, housing and communal services equipment.

08.07.2010  Rusnano to help develop new medicines

Rusnano said Tuesday that it will back a $160 million project to develop medicines for cancer and AIDS in Russia.

06.07.2010  Dubna-Nano 2010

The International conference «Dubna-Nano2010» is organized by Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The conference is held in Dubna, Moscow Region, Russia, on July 5—10, 2010. Abstracts in English are available.

30.06.2010  Novosibirsk researchers to develop an anti-tumour drug based on nanoparticles

The researchers at the Medical Biotechnology Institute, Vector State Research Centre of Virology and Biotechnology, are developing a new anti-tumour medication basically presenting an alpha tumour necrosis factor (TNF-α) included in the nanoparticles. The nanopreparation shows a higher anti-tumour properties as compared to free TNF-α.

23.06.2010  Getting ceric oxide nanoparticles of a preset size

Ceric oxide nanoparticles protect the organism from oxidizing stress and can be useful for malignant tumor treatment. Detailed investigation of their properties requires developing the method for getting ceric oxide nanoparticles of a preset size. Such method was for the first time suggested by specialists at the N.S. Kurnakov Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry (Russian Academy of Sciences) and Moscow State University. 21.06.2010  Nanocomplex accelerates burn healing

Dihydroquercetin phytogenous flavonoid packed together with clicyne amino acid into lecithin nanoparticles accelerates healing of thermal and chemical burns of the skin.

16.06.2010  Wound healing ointment with copper nanoparticles

Specialists at the Institute of Power Problems of Chemical Physics (Russian Academy of Sciences) are developing a new class of drugs based on copper nanoparticles. Picture: Tymcode's photostream on Flickr.

09.06.2010  Free to read - Nanotechnologies in Russia Volume 5, Issues 1-2, 2010

Read free issue of Nanotechnologies in Russia at SpringerLink.

09.06.2010  Plants to synthesise proteins for vaccine production

Immunologically relevant proteins to produce vaccines against various infections are currently created in the cells of bacteria, yeast or in the animal cell cultures, using the methods of genetical engineering. Growing vaccine proteins in plants can present a competitive alternative to those traditional technologies.

04.06.2010  Nanomaterials for nonlinear optics

A scientific group at the Vavilov State Optical Institute (St. Petersburg) has presented the results of its fundamental research of light-induced changes in the refractive index of organic materials during the introduction of fullerenes and carbon nanotubes. Picture: bse.sci-lib.com

02.06.2010  Nanoparticles produced by bacteria

Subject of basic research, which united specialists of five Russian scientific centers, is magnetic nanoparticles synthesized by some bacteria. These particles may be used in nanomedicine and biotechnologies. Picture: Department of Animal Sciences, University of Illinois

27.05.2010  Rusnano launches commercial service for high-performance computing

Rusnano launches an infrastructure pilot project, a high-performance computing service for the nanoindustry. The service has the processing capacity of 20 teraflops. The total budget for the project is up to 200 million rubles of which Rusnano will finance up to 150 million rubles.
